A very rock 'n' roll Chuck Mung, swathed in two vests (one furry, one with red, white and blue sequins) and a kilt, won the Seattle regionals for the Cuervo Black US Air Guitar Championships at Chop Suey last night! We could tell at his performance in Round 1 that there was something special about this one, a skillful edge that set him apart from his (admittedly crazy) competition. The night wrapped up by 11 p.m., and though we didn't see any mind-blowingly awesome performances, we had fun. Fun!
Among other contestants, Mung was up against a guy in a silky, v-necked emerald-green jumpsuit, a crowd-pleaser by the name of Chester Swollen-Gourd, and a bespectacled dude by the name of Chop Chop Chop Stop. We were also treated to a performance by Bjorn Turock, who gave the critical judges panel the finger after his beautiful, well-choreographed demonstration. The three rounds went swiftly, with some spikes of excitement (one contestant during Round 1 ran back and clumsily leaped onto the bar for part of his 60-second performance!) and some not-so-exciting stretches (the lone female, despite her rocker-blonde hair in her eyes, wasn't inspiring).
We think next year's regional will be more exciting. And bet we're looking forward to the video from this year's nationals in early August!

i just watched "air guitar nation" over the weekend, and it's really sad to see that bjorn turoque is STILL traveling around to all the regional contests, and still losing.
