One Week and Counting

You've got one week, Seattle, until the bumper sticker motto of "Hang Up & Drive" becomes state law. Starting next Tuesday, July 1st, it will be illegal to operate a moving vehicle while talking on a hand-held cell phone. Drivers will be able to continue their conversations and multi-tasking, as long as they have a hands-free device. If you are caught talking (or, God forbid, texting) and driving after the 1st, you will face at least a $124 ticket. So get it out of your system now!

Headsets are easier when you're driving anyway (unless you keep turning bluetooth off on your phone by mistake, like me). Though cellphone users certainly don't have a monopoly on stupidity.

As a capable cell phone driver I think the rule should just be to pull over anybody that drives recklessly period. Leave the cell phoners alone.

I wish there was a number (like 764-HERO) where you could call in to report drivers on their cell phones.

eh, they're pretty good at making something up if they wanna pull you over. ie, MURDER

too bad it's a second offense law. cops can't pull you over and ticket you just for talking on a cell phone. you have to be doing something else stupid at the same time.
