Sun on the Saddle—The Marymoor Little 100
While the other end of Marymoor Park was packed with campers, the Velodrome hosted two biking events on Saturday: The Flying Wheels Century and the Little 100. A 100-mile bike race is plenty interesting, but Seattlest was immediately drawn to the Little 100. A cruiser bike relay race consisting of co-ed teams in costume? We. Are. Down.
Team Cerveza Libre were beaten off the starting line by some eager cowboys and pushy businessmen. (That's a costume? Really?!) Team Willy Wonka was hindered by a decidedly non-aerodynamic top hat, while another overly eager team learned the hard way that kilts were NOT intended for biking. Team Disco was totally comfortable on the old school rides.
Near the end of the 40-lap race, a team of bearded ladies dueled with some flappers and the flappers were victorious. (Aren't they always?) Another team came in 3rd, but the weather didn't have us in a note-taking mood. After all the clouds and rain we've had, on a clear sunny day, aren't we all winners anyway?
