What's Cookin': Trek Over to a Trampetti Olive Oil Tasting

Earlier this week, we reported on Anthony Bourdain’s presentation at the Moore last Saturday, which included his regular railing of Rachael Ray. The mistress of 30 Minute Meals seems a bit impatient, which is why she’s shortened the three-second "extra virgin olive oil" down to EVOO. Mmm…EVOO…TIGS (That Is Good STUFF).

Today, you have a chance to find out sample some high-class EVOO. The fine folks at DeLaurenti Specialty Food & Wine, who recently brought you samples galore at the fourth annual Seattle Cheese Festival, are teaming with Ritrovo to offer you a taste of Trampetti XV olive oil. (High class indeed; the oil retails for about $60 per 750 ml, which makes gas prices seem downright reasonable!) The Trampetti farm, located in Umbria, has been in business for about one hundred years. Their XV is a limited production oil made from olives that the family harvests only in the first 20 days of October, yielding a bold, fruit flavor with a peppery finish—and it’s also higher in polyphenol antioxidants. Mmm…polyphenol antioxidants…TIGS again.

In this time of rising food costs, we believe more than ever in dishes made with just a few, high quality ingredients. Items like olive oil can go a long way, and this is a great opportunity to take a taste of something special and learn how to make your meals even better.

Friday, 6/13, 3-5 p.m. // DeLaurenti Specialty Food & Wine, 1435 First Avenue // free (more if you buy olive oil)
