Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition

G IS FOR GEORGETOWN: There are few parts of Seattle we love more and know less about than gritty and glorious Georgetown. We were smitten from the moment we walked into Jules Maes Saloon three years ago and have never looked back. Adding considerable wonderfulness to the neighborhood is the Georgetown Music Festival—Seattle's most under-appreciated music festival—happening this weekend. If you love local music like we do, you will be spending Friday and Saturday taking in rowdy performances from local bands such as Thee Emergency, Cancer Rising, the Lashes, and the Hands. We'd recommend wearing long pants to save your knees when you fall hard for Georgetown.

3:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, 11:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. on Saturday // Georgetown // $26 for a weekend pass or $17 per day

NEW ORLEANS IN DA HOUSE: If you're looking for the blues and the funk, it'll be at Chateau Ste. Michelle tonight. If you've never been to New Orleans and you've always been curious about the extraordinary music of that city—or if you're a Crescent City transplant living here now—you can't really beat a night of these two sharing the stage. Between them all, Dr. John and the Neville Brothers can pretty much can play just about every song that matters to New Orleans music history. Maybe you couldn't make it to NOLA for JazzFest this year, but you can have a mini-version tonight if you’re willing to fork over the cash.

7 p.m. // Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery // $39.50 and up

MEATBALLS: Sadly, we don't believe the actual Swedish Chef will be at Saturday's Swedish meatball feast. But you will be able to enjoy a hearty buffet meal with the winner of Seattle's Ultimate Kottbuller Cook-Off. For those of you not living in Ballard, kottbuller is Swedish for their delicious traditional meatballs. There is an unmanned bar, so make sure you also learn the word "skål" (a nordic "cheers") before you head out.

7:00 p.m. // Swedish Cultural Center // $30

SYMPHONY DOES SIFF: The Seattle Symphony will be accompanying the Russian classic Alexander Nevsky all weekend at Benaroya Hall. Despite clocking in at a paltry 112 minutes, the film is epic—like all great works of Russian art. Because the classic film was confiscated by Stalin before the soundtrack had been completed, it should be a special treat for fans of the film and classic cinema to hear Sergei Prokofiev's score performed live.

7:00 p.m. Friday, 8:00 p.m. Saturday, 2:00 p.m. Sunday // Benaroya Hall // $17-95

Cosign on Frank's sentiment, though I'm only a part time Georgetowner.

Dear Yuppies and Hipsters looking for an "authentic experience",

Please stop coming to Georgetown and turning it into the New Ballard. You've already got one of those.

    Thank you.

    -Frank.
