Meltdown for the Mariners

After yet another Mariners loss—and the final game of a three-game sweep by the Angels—manager John McLaren finally had a bit of a meltdown in his news conference yesterday:
We're playing our (bleep) off every day and got nothing to show for it. I'm tired of (bleeping) losing, I'm tired of getting my (bleep) beat, and so have those guys. We gotta change this (bleeping bleep) around and get after it. And only we can do it. The fans are (bleeped) off, and I'm (bleeped) off, and the players are (bleeped) off. And that's the way it is. There's no (bleeping) easy way out of this, can't feel sorry for ourselves, we gotta (bleeping) buckle it up and get after it. I'm tired of (bleep) losing this, (bleeping) every night we bust our (bleep). It's gotta be a total team (bleeping) effort to turn this thing around, and that's it.We love to see him get fired up, but we're pretty sure it won't have much of an effect on the group of unemotional players they have in the clubhouse.
There are all kinds of great quotes in this article in the Seattle Times covering general manager Bill Bavasi's comments after McLaren's meltdown. Our favorite has to be this smart-ass comment:
This is a problem that includes the general manager and his office, the manager and his staff, and the players to a great degree," he said, adding wryly: "Right now, the medical guys are doing a great job, and the clubhouse guys are tremendous.Hey, at least he can make a funny in the middle of all this. Enjoy it while you're still around, buddy. Heads are going to have to start rolling somewhere.
Thanks to PositivePaul on Flickr for the scary image of John McLaren.

I've got tickets for the Cleveland series in July, but other than those, I think I am done with the Mariners in 2008.
