Can't Miss It: Thursday
ART & TRAUMA: The Center on Contemporary Art in Ballard is kicking off its series of "After Dark" events with Slow Healing—a documentary/multi-media presentation about veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who have returned from the field with Traumatic Brian Injuri (TBI). There'll be a slideshow at 9 p.m., followed by Butoh dancing and SEA SHOW.
9 p.m. // CoCA Ballard // $10-15 suggested donation

ROOTS NIGHT: When this Seattlest talks about "roots," we're generally referring to the stuff involving banjos and fiddles and whatnot. However, tonight is all about the Roots—capital R. They'll be playing a show at Marymoor somewhat early on in the night (with Erykah Badu). And then, ?uestlove will hightail it over to Neumo's to do a little DJing. The Neumo's party is hosted by CultureMob, and slated to open its doors an hour after the Marymoor show is scheduled to start. We figure ?uestlove will arrive sometime around 11 p.m. But, it'll be worth it to show up a little early and get all listening party about the Roots new album Rising Down.
Erykah Badu and The Roots // 7 p.m. // Marymoor Park // $34-44
The Roots Listening Party // 8 p.m. doors // Neumo's // $15
FLAMINGOS!: The Woodland Park Zoo is introducing its new Chilean flamingo exhibit tonight. And what do we always do when we hang out with Chilean flamingos? Drink wine and eat appetizers, naturally. Events at the zoo are always a good time, and flamingos are really incredible, gorgeous animals. When you hang out with a flock of flamingos, close your eyes—kinda sounds like they're having a cocktail party. So, why not celebrate their presence here with a little cocktail party of our own, eh?
6-8 p.m. // Woodland Park Zoo // $40
Thanks to wordtonic, from the Seattlest Flickr Pool, for that lovely photo of a fake flamingo.
