Hey, Jude Is "Out of LA" and Coming to Seattle

We’re not sure how we first stumbled upon Jude and his music, but we have a vague recollection of hearing him on the radio as a guest DJ while we passed through Seattle on a business trip in the late '90s. An amazing song set made us think "this guy really knows music," and when we picked up his 430 N. Harper Ave., we were hooked from the first lyrics:
Tortilla chips
Are on my lips
And no one’s pressed
Against my hips
Bad beat poet late at night

Now, there are many underappreciated artists, but Jude’s at the top of our list. That said, you may actually know his music without knowing him. Jude (born Michael Jude Christodal) was part of last year’s Low Stars—whose "Calling All Friends" was all over the airwaves last summer. His mesmerizing "I Know" was part of the City of Angels soundtrack, and on the small screen you may have heard his music in Lost, The O.C., Alias, and more.

When not in France (where he’s got quite a following), Jude lives in L.A., where we first saw him with a band at the Roxy. But, this student of philosophy knows how to captivate a crowd as a solo artist with moving melodies, vocals, and lyrics. And, once in a while, we’re lucky to have him come all the way up the coast, such as tomorrow when he’s playing the Tractor Tavern—where we hope he'll draw an appreciative audience.

Thursday, 6/5, 9 p.m. // Tractor Tavern // $10 advance, $12 day-of-show
