Does Seattle Central Inspire Violent Rage?
After this week's headlines about Seattle Central Community College, we're seriously starting to wonder. Two seperate SCCC students were arrested this week for threatening to commit violence on the campus.
Police arrested Julio Hernandez on Wednesday for threating to commit a 'Virginia Tech style' attack at the college. As reported by KIRO 7, Hernandez is currently being held on $75,000 bail after a prosecutor in the case described the 21-year-old as a "grave threat to the community." So today's arrest of another SCCC student for threatening violence against a teacher must seem like a bad case of deja vu for police and campus officials.
Similarly to jokes about bombs on public transit, comments about shooting up the school are rarely taken as jokes nowadays. No word yet if the week's arrests are going to change the school's approach to security. But worries about safety must be adding a whole new level of stress to students already worrying about finals.
