Careful, There's a Bad Bug Out There

norovirus_e1.jpgOkay, the good news is, we didn't have sunstroke and don't have to hand in our secret, California-native Golden Bear flag lapel pin. Whew. The bad news is, there's a pretty contagious, extra-strength bug going around town. We don't see anything on the Department of Health website yet, so we must, as usual, be trendsetters.

We met a friend of ours for lunch Friday at Mexico at Pacific Place, and both of came down with something nasty about 32 hours later on Saturday night. (His wife got sick last night.) There's some variation in how it hits you: we spent a few hours upchucking and then spent the next morning sitting down (if you get our drift). Our friend actually passed out in the bathroom. Sunday we spent flat on our back, trying to ingest fluids. (We're still not 100%, so if there's a typo here, be kind.)

Yesterday we started hearing more about people getting sick over the weekend, who, like us, were blaming it on the heat, overactivity, and/or bad food. But if you've gotten sick already, you might warn anyone you were around that the bug is gunning for them next. It sounds like a norovirus, so make a note to avoid cruise ship passengers and brandish garlic at them if they try to approach.

You're sealing your own fate, Troy! What does "careful" mean if not total hermetic seclusion? I mean, you tell me.

  • I'm sorry, but I really don't consider the Seattlest site filled with the "general public."

I certainly didn't rush out and buy a set of medical masks and plastic gloves.

"The bad news is, there's a pretty contagious, extra-strength bug going around town."

sorry you aren't feeling well but where's your evidence for this? before inciting potential panic with a sensationalist headline you should get some facts under your belt. first, have you been to the doctor, did he diagnose you as having norovirus or any other kind of virus? maybe it was the heat.

two, how many other people have gotten sick and what, exactly, were the circumstances? these are the kind of questions public health agencies ask before they start a panic by telling the general public to, "warn anyone you were around that the bug is gunning for them next."

    "It sounds like a norovirus"

maybe it is, but you should get a doctor's opinion before you post it on the intarwebs.

    Oh. My. God.

I had the norovirus last winter, and I swear, I thought I was going to die. I wasn't right for about 10 days! Went to the doc and she diagnosed it as norovirus, and stressed how incredible contagious it is. Nothing you can do for it but ride it out, and take anti-nausea meds. Oh, and stay home!

  • I was just complaining about these symptoms. I feel like I'm about to pass out and vomit at the same time.

    Way to beat the CDC!

I'm in Colorado and my friend was warning me about this. She thinks she got hit by it and was out for about 48 hours. I can't believe the news isn't covering this.
