Get Out: Avenue Q Unveiling Today at Lunch
Avenue Q is going to be hitting the Paramount this summer, and word on the street is that the banner they'll be hanging on the theater is simply scandalous.
According to the press release:
Seattle Theatre Group unveils most controversial banner to date at 1:00 PM on the east facing exterior of The Paramount Theatre. Be the first to see Lucy, star of Broadway's Avenue Q, in all her provocative glory. "This is the first billboard that's made me blush, " says STG Executive Director Josh LaBelle.
Seattlest will be there with a camera for all of you who can't get out of work. For those of you like us who don't have a "real" job and can make it....see you there.
**UPDATE**
We joined a cameraman from KOMO-TV and some of the fine folks from the Paramount for the unveiling. Nobody we spoke to had seen the show yet, but the banner pretty much says it all. We asked Amanda Bedell, the Paramount's PR Manager, if she's concerned some uptight parents might complain about the explicit shot of puppet boobs glaring from the Capitol Hill side of the theater. She laughed, said she guesses we'll see, and reminded us the banner is facing the Hill, after all. Good point.
Avenue Q opens at the Paramount on June 10, and runs through the 22nd.
Nothing beats puppet cleavage...except for maybe puppets singing songs like "It Sucks to Be Me," and the like. It's been four years since the show's Tony award for best musical. We're happy to see they're finally sharing the love with us out here on the left coast.
