This weekend, Seattle's prodigal dance son returns, as the Mark Morris Dance Group performs the 20th anniversary of Morris' epic classic, L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato. Yes, it is unseasonably sunny and warm out there, and you can simply extend your gorgeous day outside by taking in an evening of transcendant dance.
Morris' inspirations are humble, really: the poet Milton, the composer Handel, and the painter William Blake. This is his capstone work, widely regarded as a masterpiece to which innumerable words have be penned, vainly attempting to capture this rollicking roller-coaster of human experience. We say: just go see it. Did we mention the full symphony accompaniment?
In addition to the performances themselves, the group has rolled into town with a flurry of associated master classes, lectures, and even a class for Parkinsons' patients and their caretakers. Full details are on the Paramount site.
Fri-Sun, May 16-18, 8 p.m. (2 p.m. Sun) // the Paramount // Tickets: $35-75
