Top 6 Ways to Spend That Stimulus Check

MoneySeattlest just got our stimulus check from the government—cha-ching!—and we're looking for ways to spend it that don't involve just handing it over to the oil companies. We thought we'd share some ideas:

1) A new tattoo. Recommendations for artists and studios are very welcome in the comments.

2) Gifts for Mom. Sunday is Mother's Day, and our mother is in the opposite part of the country. It would've been cool of us to surprise her by spending the whole stimulus check on a flight to Orlando this weekend, but then we'd have nothing left to spend when we got there. We're not going to ruin it by telling you what we got her (because maybe she's reading), but it's good to spend a little cash on mom.

3) A new musical instrument. We could probably find something decent and under the stimulus check amount at Trading Musician.

4) Tickets to see Arianna Huffington speaking for a Planned Parenthood fundraiser on May 20. Tickets range from $125-$5,000, depending on your level of commitment and the size of your stimulus package.

5) A Wii. It's supposed to rain all weekend long, which creates the perfect opportunity to sit inside and play video games the whole time.

6) Send it all to Myanmar.

(Honorable mention: send it all to Hillary's campaign, just to keep the dream alive.)

Since we're getting it, we might as well try to make it work like the pandering politicians say it's supposed to. Buy American! Or at least try not to buy Chinese, hard as that is.

I'm putting it in savings just to piss Dubbya off. It's like I let my dog poo in his yard- and I don't even have a yard.

Bitches.

Im donating it to American Express. Judging on the nasty phone calls, they need it more than I do.

Better to pay off debt than attempt savings -- the interest on debt is very likely higher than the interest on a savings account. -- And if you don't need to pay bills, spend the money! The inflation that's happening will erase any savings account gains as well... better to invest in something that'll have a greater return in the long run!

Needless to say, I'm paying bills with it thanks to my Europe trip.

I'm both in the last group AND since I paid by Visa I expect I'll be sent a check rather than having mine directly-deposited like most people. Which will just make it easier for me to hold onto until the 3G iPhones come out...

Though if the rumored iPhone discounts end up happening, I might have enough left over to buy $240 worth of pudding. :)

$240 worth of pudding? Awwwwwww yeah.

Will Bodnar at Laughing Buddha is going to be getting a repeat visit from me thanks to the stimulus check.

Hopefully with enough left over to take advantage of those cheap competing flights to San Francisco.

Paying off debt, most definitely. And it will feel great. I'll probably spring for an extra bag of Goldfish crackers too, and a copy of The Roots' latest album.

Get a tattoo of Arianna on your forehead. That's commitment. Anything less is just faking it. And besides it will tweak her stimulus package and you could get lucky.

polyrythmic is right but I will blow it on unhealthy indulgences.

aren't we going to have to pay this back in like ten years?

I am planning to blow it all on student loan payments. I like to feel like a big spender.

And if you go for option #1, Micah at Under The Needle in Belltown is the best in the city.
