Screw Dick's, Eat at the Baguette Box

Baguette BoxThe e-mails were flying fast and furious late this morning at the virtual Seattlest HQ about the new Dick's fries, which made us start thinking about lunch, naturally. Although our stomach is strong and we can put just about anything in it without losing it later on, we tend to stay away from Dick's simply because we always feel like we need a shower afterwards. After a night of heavy drinking, their fries are welcome, but in the middle of a workday? Not so much.

Since our coworkers here at Office Nomads all rave about the Baguette Box on Pine, we decided to check it out today. We're definitely converts from The Honey Hole.

First, the Coconut Curry Tofu Sandwich with Avocado was spectacular. Thanks to the perfectly marinated cubes of tofu, a nice sharpness mixed well with a delicately sweet flavor coming from the spread on the crispy-crust baguette. A few well-placed springs of cilantro spruced it all up, and of course the aforementioned avocado added the right amount of fatty goodness to the whole concoction. Oh, and the fries that went with it were spot on perfect.

Not to compare the place to Honey Hole too much (which does have good sandwiches), but the overall atmosphere was a lot nicer as well. Think less hip, more light and air. Personally, for lunch, we’d rather that than what feels like a dark, smoky bourbon bar. Even the cashier, whose name we neglected to get, added to the scene. While we waited for our sandwich, he told us that the truffle fries served there are required eating next time we come in, all about where in the market they get their truffle oil, and about a $5 wine tasting that "blows the back off your head."

Another nice change from the overworked, overhip workers up the hill.

  • Oh man. I need to go up to Paseo. Never been. Tried once, but they were closed for a couple months because of winter. We all know we shouldn't eat sandwiches in the winter time.

    (bullshit)

Wow, I want to try the pork belly sandwich... I usually get the tofu or the drunken chicken, and of COURSE the truffle fries. Truffle FRIENDS, more like.

This is one of my favorite places for the lunch. The truffle oil fries are completely awesome. They had a braised berkshire pork belly sandwhich which is also brilliant.

I love their vegetarian sandwich with bell peppers and delicious.

I used to love the Drunken Chicken sandwich when I lived near there. Also, the fries are killer, nothing better than eating fries out of a paper cup.

  • I remember the Honey Hole before the atomsphere is what it is. So nice.

I wish they never put in that bar. Not that that's what makes the atmosphere so "hip" but it certainly was a sign of the new era.
