Heads Up: Firefly Concerts Welcomes Ellis

We understand May 17 is opening night for the Storm—an event that'll be drawing the attention of a majority of lady-lovin' ladies. But for the rest of us who don't care about basketball, who don't drool over Sue Bird, and for all the straight folks and gay men, there is something else going on that night: Ellis.
Not only is she incredibly hot, she's also one of those artists who, 10 minutes into her set, you realize you've got a big goofy grin on, and you've been grinning for 10 minutes. Her music makes us very happy. Maybe because she sings with a big goofy grin on her face. She's also a fantastic lyricist whose songs capture the curiosity, fear, humor, and exhilaration of every subject she dares to address. Melodically, there's a constant ebb and flow—a rhythmic sway—to her work. There's just enough melody to stick in your head, but not so much that it comes off formulaic or poppy.
We know it's unconventional to go to a show at a chocolate factory, but let's face it: as long as the chairs are comfortable (they are), the host is gracious (she is), there's complementary hors d'oeuvres and good beer and wine to purchase (of course), a fireplace, candles, and the music is good (see above)...it's well worth it. Firefly used to operate out of the hostess' house in West Seattle, but she just started getting too good at it, too popular, and now she holds the shows at larger venues. This'll be the last one at Theo before Firefly hostess Jennifer Kallan moves her operation to Columbia City Theater. If you're into the singer/songwriter thing, you like to be happy and moved, just keep in mind Firefly tickets go fast.
