Can't Miss It: Monday

CINCO DE MAYO: We may not have a ton of great tacquerias in town, but our local Mexican joints do a fine job with their margaritas. Our favorite is out in Ballard—La Carta de Oaxaca. Also worthy are Jalisco's various locations and, of course, Mama's Mexican Kitchen in Belltown. Or take it one step further and head to Tacos Guaymas in Greenlake to catch Pedrito Vargas y su Grupo Ashe.
4 p.m. // Tacos Guaymas // Free
TEENS AND THE PARENTS WHO LOVE THEM: If your kids are getting to that age...you know, "those years between training bras and keys to the family car," this could be a great book for you and your teenage daughter. Author Sarah O'Leary Burningham wrote a great guide intended for parents and kids, alike, teaching you how to negotiate and understand each other. She'll be in town reading from her book, How to Raise Your Parents tonight.
7 p.m. // Third Place Books // Free

HOE-DOWN: The Tallboys are one of our favorite local bands in the whole wide world, and they head up a square dance every month at the Tractor Tavern. Put on your boots and your overalls, and head over to Ballard for a night of fiddle tunes and hoeing down. You don't need to come with a partner to join the dance.
8 p.m. // Tractor Tavern // $5 singles; $8 pairs
GARDENING & VOLUNTEERING: If you're the kind who "works from home," or has a Monday free, maybe head down to Magnusen park and join the native plant nursery work party at Magnusen Community Garden. Lend a hand—or, rather, a green thumb—and help beautify this lovely public park.
10 a.m.-2 p.m. // Native Plant Nursery, north of The Brig and Magnuson Community Garden // Free // Contact Bonnie Miller 206-524-8713 for more information
