Off to the Races with the BottleNeck Lounge and Skillet

We're pretty sure we've never watched the Kentucky Derby. Often dubbed "the most exciting two minutes in sports," the 134th(!) Run for the Roses takes place tomorrow at Churchill Downs (6:10 p.m. EDT, so 3:10 p.m. here). Not that it really matters, but Florida Derby winner Big Brown is the 3-1 favorite to win.

We won't be betting on the race, but the odds are good that tomorrow we'll be at the BottleNeck Lounge for their Kentucky Derby party. No, we won't be donning some fancy Derby outfit or even an outlandish hat, but we will be there to take in a mint julep or two and the Southern-fried trailer cooking of Skillet.

Skillet is headed back to the BottleNeck this Saturday in honor of the Kentucky Derby. Doors are at 2 and the race is at 3 – after which we’ll be handing out prizes for the Best Overall Derby Outfit and of course, Best Hat. We’ll be serving up some killer mint juleps and offering specials on GREAT bourbons all day while Skillet dishes up southern-inspired grub from 3:30 until they run out.

When it comes to the universally beloved Skillet (who just got another write-up in the Weekly), "until they run out" of food could be five minutes after they start serving, so we'd advise you to get there early.

And as if you need another excuse to drink, Cinco de Mayo is on Monday. The BottleNeck is hosting a fiesta that day as well (5 p.m.-midnight), where $10 will get you a pint-sized margarita, two veggie or beef tacos, and an unlimited amount of chips and guacamole. Considering we can eat our weight in guac, you might want to show up early that day too.

    jaded people = shorter lines.

    thx!

FINALLY, someone else who realizes how lame they are. Tried to go two weeks ago and while waiting in line, I saw their truck they use to haul food. GASOLINE can stored next to a box of potatoes and dirty dishes. GROSS. I think I will stick to a traditional lunch option from now on.

    Skillet has become totally overrated.

Food's pretty good, but every time I go now, there's waaaaaaay to big of a line and the guys inside and occasionally outside seem totally chaotic and disorganized.

It was fun for a while, but Skillet is off my list.

(unless I happen to driving by and I actually see that there's not more than 3 people in line and it won't be 45 mins for my food)
