Can't Miss It: Thursday

BOOKS: Local author (from Anacortes) William Dietrich will be making the rounds of local book stores, starting tonight at University Book Store. He'll be reading from his recent book, The Rosetta Key. The book sounds a little stressful, but full of Indiana Jones-style adventure.
7 p.m. // University Book Store // Free
IN BALLARD: Pufferfish is probably one of Seattle's most awesome, little-known folk-rock bands. We're talking guys with shakers on their ankles dancing around the stage, playing guitar. Okay, maybe it's hippie music, but it's damn good hippie music. Tonight, they'll be joined at Conor Byrne Pub in Ballard by Pete Bernhard (from The Devil Makes Three) and Levi Fuller.
9 p.m. // Conor Byrne // Free

FOLK MUSIC & BIG JAPANESE DRUMS: Jack Straw Productions will present folksinger Jim Page with Artis the Spoonman and One World Taiko. If you've never been in a room with those Taiko drums, be prepared to walk away stupefied.
8 p.m. // Jack Straw Chapel Performance Space // $5-15 sliding scale
PROTEST: As we've already mentioned, there's a demonstration starting off this afternoon in Judkins Park. There are sure to be some talks to rile up the crowd, and then everyone will head down through the International District to the center of downtown. Dust off your best labor rights sign and join the scrum of activists.
4 p.m. // Judkins Park // free
