What's Cookin': Free Gelato, But, Um, Which One?
Gelatiamo means “let’s have gelato together.” To celebrate May Day and its reopening, Gelatiamo invites you into its shop from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, May 1 for a free gelato.
That’s the easy part. The hard part is choosing between the flavors. Mocha or mango? Cappuccino or caramel? Tiramisu or toasted almond? Pistachio or panna cotta? If you try to sample them all, you’ll waste too many sample spoons, and you’ll just get too confused. (Well, not as badly as at Vancouver’s La Casa Gelato with its 508 sometimes-crazy flavors, but Gelatiamo’s stuff is much better.)
So do as we do: let them choose for you. That’s how we discovered caipirinha, which was refreshing. Though we were also ga-ga for the gorgonzola as a change of pace, so you might want to ask for it (bring along a pear to slice into it!). Owner Maria Coassin, who’s also passionate about her petit fours and pannetones, loves the many flavors that lend themselves to gelato-making. If you see her, smile and suggest she experiment with wasabi-ginger; we know her mentor is somewhere in Seattle and willing to work with her on that one.
