Starbucks to Debut Two New Drinks

What was that about getting back to making the perfect latte? Starbucks announced today that they are debuting two new, non-coffee beverages. The company unveiled their plans in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

The new drinks you will be able to buy, instead of the delicious tasty disappearing breakfast sandwiches? According to the article, one of the new drinks will be a "smoothie-like drink made of fruit and whey." The new blended drink, part of Starbucks' plan to include healthier choices on their menu, will be offered in a number of different flavors, including chocolate-banana and orange-mango.

The other drink, which will be available in limited markets, will be a "more-indulgent sweet, icy beverage developed with an Italian company." Ooh, fancy! Minus the Italian company part, don't they already have the Frappucinno as an indulgent, sweet, and icy treat? Of course, the Italian company inclusion makes all the difference in the world—most likely on the cost of the drink, too. No word yet on what the new drinks will be called. Hopefully the word "whey" is not included in the name of the smoothie-like drink. We don't see the "Whey & Juice" being a big seller.

Whey and juice sounds gross. Starbucks should know better than to introduce smoothies.

So its just a friggin protein shake.

I need some un-snobby whey and juice from McDonalds!

A few ideas for naming/marketing the new drink:

Go Awhey

There's Something in the Whey of My Coffee

Screw Starbucks, I'm on My Whey to Stumptown
