When Buses and Skaters Collide

Skate boarder
Damn, this is the kind of story that really makes our stomach churn. This morning, a skater was hit by a bus killed when he fell under a bus wheel in the U-District. The 20-year-old skater, according to the Times, "ran into the side of the bus and fell under the rear wheel...He was pronounced dead at the scene." Apparently the bus driver didn't even realize she'd run over the kid until the cops stopped her a block later.

Seattlest grew up in a small southern town where the only thing to do besides school was go to church or skate. It's one of those things for us—we just feel for skaters. We've never known a skater who wasn't nuts about skating, and who wasn't super fearless. In this case, the kid was from Bellevue, a freshman business major and a member of Phi Gamma Delta. We hope his brothers and his family can find some peace today.

    Good point--I fixed it. Thanks!

Your post says the "skater was hit by a bus" when in fact, according to every witness account, the skater hit the side of the bus.

You may consider this nitpicking, but the "hit by a bus" wording implies the bus driver was at fault, when he was not.
