BOOKS: In honor of it being Earth Day, why not let mad peak-oil prophet James Howard Kunstler paint a cautionary portrait for you? His dystopic new novel, World Made by Hand, is about what a post-oil, changed climate, pandemic-ridden America might look like in just a few decades. It's good to listen to pessimists from time to time, because most of us bleep over worst-case scenarios, or don't imagine them worst-case enough. We trust Kunstler will really put future-us through the wringer.
METAL MUSIC: "One of the most bad-ass retro metal bands since Cathedral," The Sword is at Neumo's tonight with Children and Slough Feg. To give you some idea of the wolves they run with, they're confirmed for seven dates on the European Metallica tour. For a taste of their musical idiom, we suggest "Fire Lances Of The Ancient Hyperzephyrians." Have you already run across The Sword's new video for "Maiden, Mother & Crone" at the Headbangers Blog?
7 p.m. doors // Neumo's, 925 East Pike Street // $10 adv (all ages)
