Feeling The Beat This Weekend

We're excited about three hiphop(ish) shows this weekend: RJD2 at Chop Suey, Lucky I Am at Nectar, and Willie Will's album release party at Chop Suey.

RJD2's got groove practically oozing from his pores. This producer, multi-instrument musician and singer came up in Columbus and was signed to DefJux as a hiphop artist. His recent albums take a turn away from typical hiphop sampling and his early focus on electronic sounds towards more of an eclectic, live instrumentation. Should be a fantastic show. Check out this interview with Crossfire from earlier this year, and for a taste of RJD2's playful style, here's the crutch-tastic video for "Work It Out":

Lucky.I.Am, co-founder and active member of the LA-based Living Legends crew, is known for his festival-sized energy and his penchant for touring; his 2007 solo album Most Likely To Succeed, reviewed by BeatBots here, featured such illustrious guests as Slug, Aesop Rock, and Mickey Avalon. Here's a performance of "Another Day":

And Willie Will, one of the Seattle area's most respected Christian hiphop artists, has an anticipated new record coming out. His show at Chop Suey also includes performances from Illy Wonka, Vehement, and Sportn' Life's Kingzmen.
