Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition
FRIDAY MUSIC: Subtle, the genre-blending Bay Area group that plays music described as indie, electronic, experimental rock, and abstract hip-hop, have added a new element to the mix: lasers. Subtle frontman Doseone will attend a laser CD listening party at, naturally, Seattle's Laser Dome; they're hyping their new album ExitingARM. The laser show will also include some of the bands artwork. (Their Seattle live show will be at Nectar Lounge on May 10.)
SATURDAY FESTIVAL: The Green Festival is back, with 350 exhibits, organic drinking and dining, and 125 speakers at five stages--green luminaries such as Amory Lovins, Thom Hartmann, and David Korten. It's kid-friendly, and 3R Technology will collect your old laptops, cell phones, PDAs, CDs, and household batteries, to boot. (It's going Sunday, too, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) We're turning green just thinking about it.
10 a.m.-8 p.m. // Washington State Convention & Trade Center, 800 Convention Place // Festival pass: $15 (take the Monorail and get $5 off)
SUNDAY MUSIC: Ex-Seattleite and "keyboard wizard" Byron Schenkman ran off to New York last year, but he returns with his new piano trio to perform works by Beethoven, Haydn, and Schubert. The Mira Trio focuses on music of the classical and early romantic periods; "taken from Stella Mira, 'the wonderful star' in astronomy, the trio's name reflects the power of music to inspire us with wonder." The trio is Gabriela Diaz, violin; Alexei Gonzales, cello; and Byron Schenkman, piano.
7 p.m. // Town Hall, 8th & Seneca // Tickets: $20 at the door/$17 students/seniors
The listed events were chosen by the editors of Seattlest and brought to you by the 2009 Toyota Corolla.
