A Seattle-less Summer for Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, and Shawn Smith (As of Now)

Set.

May and June will be great months for concert-going fans of the few seminal Seattle rock bands and artists still thriving today.

If you live east of, say, Iowa. Because the following local acts will play everywhere from Columbus to West Palm to NYC to London. And not Seattle.

Shawn Smith: To support The Diamond Hand, his latest (fantastic) album, the Brad frontman and soloist extraordinaire will play five shows in early May, jumping from Scotland to England.

Pearl Jam: The currently Vedder-less band will perform at least ten shows along the East Coast this June, as well as headlining the Bonnaroo fest-thingy (in Tennessee) between stops. With rumors flying about the band getting back into the studio soon, and a presidential election in the works, we'll likely miss the introduction of a new song or three and a whole lotta McBush bashing. (Tickets for their June 24 and 25 Madison Square Garden gigs hit Ticketmaster today; they're probably already history.)

Mudhoney: Behind the re-release of 20 year-old Superfuzz Bigmuff and their new album The Lucky Ones (both May 20), the better-than-ever rough-rock statesmen will hop around between Chicago and New Orleans for a couple of weeks in June. (They'll also do London July 31.) Seattle consolation prize: A free show at Easy Street (Queen Anne) on the albums' street date.

Sure, it's still early in the year, but it looks like we might have to wait until July—when Sub Pop celebrates its b-day—to catch some "Seattle Sound" survivors live.

Or will any of you get a jump on Seattlest and head to DC, NYC, or the UK in the next couple months?

Whatever. I'm expecting some secret shows. Those are all the rage now, I hear.

Yeah. There's that possibility. But I figure no one will tell me the secrets, so I'll miss all the rage. As usual.

Shut out of the super-secret Ed Vedder West Seattle shows so made the trek to Vancouver BC last week. This just fanned the flames of my Pearl Jam fever so I am headed east come June for the DC and NYC shows! A bit extreme I know, but I need my fix! I do agree, though, that all mentioned need to show some hometown love.

I always hear about the secret shows two weeks after they happen. We should have a Seattlest secret show, and only invite Seattle.
