Potential Glass in Bottles Spurs Sam Adams Recall

If you bought any 12oz Sam Adams bottles recently, you might want to take a closer look at them:

The Boston Beer Co. issued the recall following what it called routine quality-control inspections that revealed defects in some bottles used at its Cincinnati brewery. The bottles, manufactured by an unnamed third-party supplier, "might cause small bits of glass to break off and possibly fall into the bottle."

The potentially affected bottles are easily identified by a raised letter and number visible on the bottom edge of the bottle. Affected bottles are embossed with the digits "N35" followed by the letters "OI". Please see the photo. Bottles with this coding should not be drunk.

Boston Beer has stopped the distribution of the defective bottles and is ordering them removed from retail shelves. It's advising consumers who have purchased them to refrain from drinking the beer and to dispose of the products. The company said it will issue a full refund to affected customers.

For more information, they have set up a website to address this problem. We've heard from at least two people in the Seattle area that have confirmed they have bottles identified as part of the recall. So, check em' if you got em'.

Definitely. They make some quality beers, but for the most part I'll take something local over one of their beers any day. The Boston Lager is better than most other things on tap in many parts of the country, though.

The Imperial Pilsner with Hallertau hops they came out with in Seattle last year was pretty darn tasty.

  • I actually enjoy a glass of Sam Adams, when I've had it. But for some reason, it seems terribly wrong to drink it in this region.
