Hey Kristy Lee, That's What We Were Waiting For

Our friend with whom we were watching this week's installment of How Eight People Slaughter Good Songs noted that Kristy Lee was one of the only people on American Idol who didn't do something to make us angry. In fact, she seriously brought it this week (if you can forgive one or two pitchy moments in a 90-second version of a Martina McBride song). KLC's choice: "Anyway."

As of this blogging, Dial Idol has Kristy Lee in the top three for this week, right after David Archuleta (who sang some awful song about angels) and Jason Castro (who sat on a stool with a ukulele; shaking things up from his normal performance, where he sits on a stool with a guitar).

According to Dial Idol's highly scientific polling data, the bottom two are Carly Smithson, and Syesha Mercado. Carly's vocal really blew us away, but she slipped on the whole "inspirational" thing by giving a very kickass (read: not warm-and-fuzzy) performance of Queen's "The Show Must Go On." Mercado tried to recreate the magic that is Fantasia Barrino (seriously, there's no beating this). She's been trying for so long, taking the track of maybe if I sing more songs by real divas, I'll become a diva myself. It hasn't worked yet, which is why our guess is it's Mercado's week to say goodbye—a shame, since next up is Mariah Carey week.
