MUSIC: The Hotel Cafe Tour at Neumo's is sold out, so why not change things up with internationally celebrated Irish pianist John O'Conor at Meany Hall. Impress your friends with an all-Beethoven recital including the "Pathétique," "Waldstein," and "Moonlight" sonatas, and Bagatelles, Op. 126. Melinda Bargreen calls him "spectacularly good." And Beethoven, hell, if Wikipedia is correct, that guy was no slouch either.
ART: Gretchen Bennett's show "Hello" is at Howard House. Her colored-pencil drawings of YouTube videos of Kurt Cobain, says Jen Graves, are a "cross between Dürer etchings, luminist landscapes, and degraded photographs." That's "Come On Over," to the left.
10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. // Howard House, 604 Second Avenue // FREE
FILM: We're excited about this movie Build a Ship, Sail to Sadness at the Northwest Film Forum. A "musical travelogue," Build a Ship follows a young man named Vincent riding a moped through a sparsely populated Scottish mountain region, trying to interest the few inhabitants in a mobile disco. Lead-actor and collaborator Magnus Aronson provides "heartbreakingly poignant pop songs" for the soundtrack, and the whole thing wraps up in 69 minutes.
7:30, 9 p.m. // Northwest Film Forum // Tickets: $8.50
