Boy, Are We Glad We Didn't Do Karaoke Last Weekend

thebeacon.jpg

Because we might have taken a bullet to the chest.

Three patrons at the Beacon Pub for last Friday's karaoke night were shot when some random dude started randomly firing:

...the gunman was sitting at the end of the bar near the restrooms. When a woman walked out of them, he pulled his gun and fired at least three rounds before he took off, she said.

It was unclear if the people he shot were his intended target.

A 27-year-old woman, who was shot in the chest, and a 37-year-old man, shot twice in the torso, were both in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center, police spokeswoman Renee Witt said.

The second man, 28, was shot in the right knee.

Witt said investigators do not know what led to the violence and have not been able to link the gunman, believed to be in his 20s, to the victims.

We don't go every week, but we've been hitting the Beacon for karaoke about once a month for the past year. It's a great, cozy dive bar, with plenty of friendly neighborhood regulars and only a smattering of hipsters. Plus, the karaoke song selection is both large and diverse. Some friends were talking about going last Friday (and tried to talk us into it), but we thought we were coming down with a cold (or at least allergies), and one by one, the rest of our friends pussied out as well. Now we're all glad we did.

As far as we can tell, the gunman is still on the loose, but it seems as if the die-hard patrons have returned to their favorite watering hole. We'll be back at the Beacon again at some point, but we'll be keeping a paranoid eye on any sketchy-looking dudes. If nothing else, perhaps karaoke night will be a little less crowded from now on.

Yeah, that's crazy...I live near there and have always thought about checking it out, but wasn't sure how shady it would be. Sounds like this kind of shadiness is the exception there.
I'll still head in there one of these days.

I used to live by there and would do karaoke all the time at that bar. That's sad that something like that would happen there.
