Weekend Music

Head to the Showbox this weekend for Ghostland Observatory tonight and tomorrow night. We've seen the Austin duo thrice before, and we can guarantee their yelpy dance-rock is much better live than in the recorded form (and much better in a packed and sweaty room like the Showbox than a spacious outdoor venue).

Also two days in a row: local epic shoegazers Voyager One, who have a free listening party for new album Afterhours In The Afterlife tonight at Liberty (8:30pm), or get the full Voyager One visual experience at tomorrow night's CD release show at Neumo's.

Meanwhile, Seattle folk hero Ali Marcus' new outlet The Sweetheart Army plays an early show (6pm) tonight at the High Dive.

Saturday night, the Black Keys are playing the Showbox SoDo, and you really don't want to miss this highly underrated duo, who offer up a gritty mix of R&B, British invasion melodies, and Southern rock.

Also Saturday night, there's American Music Club and Tom Brosseau at the Triple Door. AMC got back together after a ten-year (1994-2004) break, and now the Americana rock band is touring off of their second post-hiatus album The Golden Age.

Also tonight: Big Ticket @ Waldo's North. It's a $3 cover, and you get a raffle ticket for every drink you buy. @ 1am there's a drawing and the winner gets a dollar for every person present! $100 minimum. I'd go myself but I can't bear to a)miss Bun B and b) drive home from Lynnwood. DJ MoneyD's the featured DJ and I like him, so you guys should go.

That Dimes show is Saturday night.

This week one my favorite local bands, The Dimes, from Portland are returning to town for a KEXP Audioasis benefit at the High Dive on an eclectic ticket that also includes headliner Mono in VCF, Cancer Rising, A Gun That Shoots Knives and Transmissionary Six. It looks like Mono and The Dimes will kick off the evening on a live Audioasis broadcast from 6-9p followed by the other bands and Mono encore thereafter.

The $7 cover benefits the Seattle Public Library Foundation.
