Liberty Strikes Again

libertyposter.jpg

A year ago Liberty, the coffeeshop/bar/sushi joint on 15th Ave, had the unmitigated gall to advertise their establishment via posters on telephone poles near their business location. As with the Iraq War, China's unlawful presence in Tibet, and Crash's Oscar win, Liberty's advertisements resulted in massive protests. Or at least some classic passive-aggressive Seattle behavior, like an "I, Anonymous" submitted to The Stranger and masking tape put on the posters indicating that Liberty was a "bad neighbor." Oh uptight Seattleite, way to stick it to the (small, independent business) man!

Well, now Liberty posters are back on the poles, albeit a little higher off the ground. But will that stop those who hate posters in public places? In a word, NO. Earlier this week, we saw an otherwise normal-looking middle-aged man walking along 15th Ave and jumping at the poles to tear Liberty's posters down. We fully assume that the protracted skirmish will continue in this manner indefinitely, with Liberty putting their posters higher and higher, while crazed North Capitol Hill residents take to ladders and jetpacks to ensure their precious telephone poles remain forever unspoiled.

Can someone explain to me "why?"

some people just have too much time on their hands.

Hey, Y'all.

This is Andrew from Liberty.

Just wait until next week's posters. I think that this fellow who takes the posters down or writes on them will really enjoy the next version.

In terms of these new posters, I had someone put them up this time and didn't do it myself as I usually do, and he went a bit overboard. Oops.

Andrew

This seems like a perfectly Seattle way to deal with something.

Are the posters the bad neighborly behavior? Or what?

I still don't get why the protest? Is it the cafe? Is it the signs? Is it actually a protest against masking tape and sharpie markers? Color printers? Telephone polls? WHAT?!

It does no good to protest when nobody can figure out what you're protesting.

I think the grievance is that posters on poles sully the look of neighborhood. 15th Ave E wouldn't want to be confused with the Pike/Pine corridor, you know.

Maybe they should just use masking tape next time.
