Joy For the Cupcakes, Sorrow For the Salmon

The popular sayings are, "women and children first" and "age before beauty," but a lesser-known saying is "cakes before fish." So, in the spirit of cakes before fish, we give you today's leading food stories:
1. Martha Stewart will feature Trophy Cupcakes on her show tomorrow. Trophy baker Jennifer Shea trucked it out to Manhattan with colleague Rick Flickinger, baked some cupcakes at a friend's house, and dropped them off for Martha. Now, it's Cupcake Week on the Martha Stewart Show, and Shea's recipe for toasted Swiss meringue cupcakes will be featured. Tune on in.
2. There may be no salmon this year. According to the Eugene, Ore., Register-Herald Guard:
"Juvenile fish returning to spawn are at record lows on the body of water most critical in supplying salmon for the West Coast fleet, which sets up what may be the worst year in the industry’s history...In a show of hands, most of the commercial trollers present said they preferred the third option: an unprecedented, West Coast-wide closure. No salmon caught in federal waters, with a few minuscule exceptions. So, ask some questions about that fresh Pacific Salmon you're getting at the grocery. This is the real bummer, yall, because Salmon is one of the best things to toss on the BBQ. We guess it's good we're eating ribs now.
