Can't Miss It: Monday
BEISBOL!: The Seattle Mariners kick off 2008 by hosting the Texas Rangers. Jeff Weaver Eric Bedard will bring his future-talent-sacrificing, spring-home-run-gifting, 8.63 ERA to the mound. Fans will cheer. Fans will get pissed off. There will be the heavenly scents of processed meat, garlic fries, beer, and (imagined) freshly trimmed field. It will, finally, be baseball season again. CERVEZA: Pyramid Breweries recently sealed a multi-year sponsorship deal with the Mariners, becoming the team's "official craft beer." (Yes, a $10 Hefe will always beat a $10 Bud.) On Opening Day, Pyramid's publicly consummating the blissful marriage across the street from Safeco. We're not sure how the "celebration" will differ from their standard gameday beer garden—though we hear there will be "lunch"—and we don't care. It's great beer, and it'll cost half as much as a cup in the ballpark. Drink up.
11am-3pm // Pyramid Alehouse, 1201 First Ave S // Free entry
SCI-FI: The Science Fiction Salon at Hugo House presents author James Patrick Kelly, who you may remember from his ten novels (or short stories, essays, reviews, poetry, and plays). He also writes a column for Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine. He's won both Nebula and Hugo Awards and his fiction has been translated into 16 languages. Kelly will be doing a reading/book signing event
7pm // Hugo House,1634 11th Ave // $5 suggested donation
