MUSICAL: Cabaret opens tonight at the 5th Ave. They have a mess of video clips up if you want a preview. It stars "Broadway’s Tari Kelly, Seattle favorites Louis Hobson, Suzy Hunt and Allen Fitzpatrick, and fringe star Nick Garrison as the Emcee." We're big Nick Garrison fans, despite not even having seen his turn in Hedwig and the Angry Inch--we're pretty sure he's reason to see the show all by himself. However, the publicity machine over at the 5th Ave also informs us: "Even the orchestra is beautiful!"
FILM: Twisted Flicks brings the fun of MST3K to life over at the Historic University Theatre. The improv crew from Wing-It Productions provide all the dialogue, sound effects, and music for a '50s B-movie, based on suggestions from that night's audience. This month's film is Flight to Mars: "A space ship carrying four scientists and a wisecracking news reporter lands on the planet Mars and discovers signs of an underground civilization."
8pm // Historic University Theatre, 5510 University Way NE // Tickets: $10
ART: Video artist Matt McCormick's "future so bright" installation is about to close up shop at the Lee Center at Seattle U.
Shot on 16mm film and transferred to digital video, McCormick’s images of forgotten and disregarded spaces slowly create large-scale, moving portraits of America’s contemporary Western landscapes. In these videos, crumbling barns are positioned against fading signs and abandoned houses, endless skies frame vacant farmyards, and windmills turn tirelessly in the distance.
1:30-6pm // Lee Center for the Arts, Seattle University, 901 12th Ave // FREE
