Jones Soda + I Can Has Cheezburger = Profit!

ICANHASREVOO.jpgPoor Jones Soda. It's been a tough year. Whereas they were once the stand-out local kids who were every bit as nutty and obsessed with soda as Northwest microbrewers are with their beer, nowadays it seems like every newly hyped win is a loss. Yeah, in the last year they busted out nationally and became the official soda at Qwest Field. But just a couple weeks ago, it was announced that in Q4 '07, Jones Soda lost $10 million dollars.

Which sucks, because when Jones took the daring step a couple years ago of going back to using real sugar in their sodas instead of corn syrup or other sweeteners, it was a slap in the face of shoddy, bad-for-you, mass-produced American food: Here was a company that wasn't going to make do with the same crap as Coke or Pepsi, and who wasn't going to subject their customers to the weird ravages of corn-based sweeteners. (Don't understand how screwed up this stuff is? Read Fat Land.) And not that we ever had a desire to taste their mashed potatoes and gravy soda, but still, way to represent. Nothing says independent spirit like inviting your customers to drink something that sounds downright disgusting.

So we were excited to hear that, bruised but ready to bounce back, Jones Soda is launching an exciting new promotional scheme utilizing...lolcats?

That's right, loved by some, loathed by many, Jones is teaming up with Seattle-phenom I Can Has Cheezburger, the biggest perpetuator of lolcats on the web, to have a contest to land your very own lolcat on a Jones Soda label.

Wanna take part? It's easy--visit the lolcat generator, upload your pic, edit the tag (visit the lolcats glossary for lol-speak) and you can make your very own label pic to submit. See ours above: our cat Lucy's 401(k) was heavily into Bear-Stearns stock; too bad for her.
