Last weekend was dead, so of course this weekend there's approximately one bajillion bands playing. We've already mentioned Kaki King, Dengue Fever, and Born Ruffians, so here's the other weekend shows of interest:
Tonight, Boredoms will be at Neumo's for their first show in Seattle in thirteen years. Though Pitchfork describes them as a "beauty and noise machine," it's pretty clear that, at least live, they're heavier on the noise than the beauty. Some clips from their American tour:
Tonight there's also electro-pop at Nectar, care of The Black Ghosts, former members of Simian Mobile Disco.
Tomorrow, head to the Triple Door for The Blow. The band used to be a duo, with Jona Bechtolt on the beats and Khaela Maricich on the crazy-girl vocals, but now that Jona's moved on to Yacht full-time, we're not quite sure what to expect Saturday night. Just Khaela? With or without beats is to be determined, as we've heard about some acoustic guitar performances she's played lately. Either way, bitch crazy. Attention men, do not date the woman found after the jump.
Saturday night, there's three options in Ballard: Steve Earle's son Justin Townes Earle at the Tractor, indie pop mavens Aloha and the Velvet Teen at the Sunset, and the theatricality of Faun Fables at the relatively new tiny venue The Space. We can't even find a website for the venue, but here's a map.
Still plenty of music come Sunday. There's the atmospheric indie rock of Headlights and Evangelicals at Nectar. Also in Fremont, Ear Candy is throwing a party (to celebrate two years of blogging and thirty years of living) with Ms Led, Sirens Sister and Speaker Speaker at the High Dive. And at Chop Suey--we're not sure how this show got under our radar--the superstar team of the Mick Jones (The Clash) and Tony James (Generation X) will be appearing under the name Carbon/Silicon. It's elemental!
