Can't Miss It: Wednesday
MUSIC: Saul Williams--actor, poet, musician--comes to Neumos with his album, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust. In our interview, he said: "I characterize Niggy Tardust as an angel of mercy. You know, I think that in the face of America and our changing times there’s a lot to be said, a lot that could be said, and a lot of ways that it could be said. And if, you know, your revolutionary rock star comes in the form of someone who’s singing and dancing versus someone who’s screaming and shooting, then that’s an angel of mercy."
ENVIRONMENT: Fred Krupp, president of the Environmental Defense Fund, talks to Town Hall audiences about his book, Earth: The Sequel. In it, Krupp profiles the innovators and investors who are reinventing what we know as energy sources and the ways we use energy. Like Al Gore, he believes that we can solve global warming by building new industries, jobs, and even fortunes in the twenty-first century. Also, he went to Yale. So, pluses and minuses, there.

HISTORY: As part of LincolnFest2008, MOHAI presents "We Cannot Escape History: Abraham Lincoln and the Halting Path to Emancipation," a talk presented by Dr.Tracy McKenzie. McKenzie, an associate professor in the UW's History Department, is a specialist in the history of the American Civil War. He says, "What began as a war exclusively to preserve the Union eventually became a war for black freedom. How are we to understand the halting path of “the Great Emancipator” to emancipation?" Man, we hope he doesn't call on us.

The film tracks Bob Dylan’s appearances at the festival between 1963 and 1965, when he was morphing from gnomic folk singer to authentic rock icon. Prior to the screening, Revolution Bar & Grill is offering a film-themed happy hour. Go on, get loaded. Dylan would have wanted it that way.
