Laughing Buddha Brewing Company is New on the Scene

Here's an idea for a city that excels in Asian cuisine: Start a brewery that specializes in "Asian-style" beers and sell them to all the local restaurants. Brilliant! That's exactly what Laughing Buddha Brewing Company is doing. What is an Asian-style beer you ask?

Traditionally speaking, it's a light lager, like many found across Asia. Our refreshing Dragon King Lager fits this description quite well (and is perfect for sushi). In our new definition, Asian style beer incorporates special ingredients from Asia. We like this view better because it lets us get really creative with beer.

They currently list five beers: Dragon King Lager and Pandan Brown Ale are currently available on draught and in 22oz bottles, and Lychee Weizen, Mango Weizen and a Ginger Pale Ale are coming soon.

The Pandan Brown Ale has got to be one of the more unique "brown ales" we've had in some time. It is brewed with palm sugar and pandan leaves, and it packs plenty of flavor while being relatively light. It's well balanced at 6% alcohol, and it would pair very well a variety of spicy Asian dishes.

The Dragon King Lager is a light beer that can hang with the best of the Japanese imports. Light on the hops, but enough bready malts to make it interesting. Refreshing, indeed, with a bit of sweetness. This would be perfect for a sushi outing.

They are located in the South Park district, right next to Baron Brewing and not far from a few wineries; anyone see a trend starting? They have a small tap room open Friday to Sunday, and it would make for a splendid spring afternoon to visit both here and Baron.

YumYum!

I really do love the Asian Lager. They truly embody the spirit of Lager. Unlike American Lager... which is more of a Pale than Lager.
