Local Headline of the Day: Rogue Monkey

Sometimes, there is a local headline that brings us so much strange delight, that we must share it with you. Today's example comes from King 5.com:

Owners of Rogue Monkey in Spokane Could Face Jail Time

We are quite certain that we will never read such a headline again in a Pacific Northwest newspaper or website, so we're enjoying it tremendously. This is the monkey we told you about earlier this week, who went on a neighborhood-wide biting spree. Local news stations in Spokane have also been enjoying the unique story and a video of the escaped monkey has made its way onto YouTube, as of today.

The owners of Chico, the illegal pet monkey who escaped, could face up to 90 days in jail or a $1,000 fine. The monkey is currently being held at Spokanimal animal shelter, where he's confined in the dangerous dog sections. (Unfortunately, the shelter doesn't have an illegal flesh-craving monkey quarantine area....perhaps now they will.) Chico's owners are only being charged with a misdemeanor for their illegal pet, because they smuggled the monkey into Spokane from within the United States. If Chico had been smuggled into the city from outside of the U.S., his owners would be facing a federal charge with a sentence of up to 25 years in jail.

"Monkey" by a Flickr Contributor....we'd prefer never to see those creepy mokey teeth up close.
