We Interview: The Physics!

Seattlest's been hearing a lot about The Physics lately, and we love their 2007 release, FutureTalk. What goes on behind the scenes? We decided to just ask, already.
You were named as 2008 Young Ones by The Stranger....were you expecting that? What does 2008 look like for The Physics from your perspective?
We weren't expecting to be named as one of the Young Ones. It's a very good look and we're looking forward to performing alongside a lot of great artists!
How do you make decisions about your stage game? Like who stands where, and who does what with their arms, etc? How many hours a week would you say you're collectively spending on your music and performance?
We spend a couple hours every week working on different aspects of performing, like critiquing each other's mannerisms, stuff to say, who talks when and where and stuff like that... It sometimes will play out a little differently on stage though.

What's the hardest part about being up-and-comers/hip hop artists/on stage?
Well, we feel like we're still just getting our feet wet in a lot of aspects of this game... We've been recording together for over 10 years, but feel like beginners when it comes to things like marketing, promoting, networking, and even performing. Kinda crazy....it's hella fun being up there though. We love it! In general, we love contributing to the pool of good music thats comin' out of the town right now.
What's this I hear about a music video?
Yes!!! The music video will officially hit the web in a matter of days (the end of this week or beginning of next week). It's directed by Marty Martin and Zia Mohajerjasbi. The video is for our song "Ready 4 We." Shooting a video is something we've always wanted to do but we wanted to do it the right way, and I feel like we definitely did that with "Ready 4 We."
What cds have you been listening to most in the past couple months?
Justo: Diamond D's Stunts, Blunts, and Hip Hop, Tribal's Untranslated Prescriptions, and Mac Mall's Illegal Business.
Thig: The Roots' Game Theory, Radiohead's In Rainbows (Bonus Disc), and a bunch of Beatles music, too...
If you could go on tour with any one major musician or band, who would it be?
There's so many groups out there that we admire and would love to tour wit', it's hard to say.
Justo: I guess someone like Little Brother or Tribe Called Quest.
Thig: I want to tour with RADIOHEAD! That'd be ill. Tribe for sure, De La Soul, Outkast.
What's your favorite sandwich place in Seattle, and what do you order?
Justo: Honey Hole, baby....get the Shazam or the Chachie's Favorite with au jus sauce....actually, any sandwich from there has the potential to be ill. After you eat there, go next door to Laced Up and grab a fit or some artwork!
Awesome. Thanks for the interview, guys. Catch The Physics tomorrow night at The Stranger's Young Ones bash at Neumos, or on Saturday night at Nectar with Macklemore!
