Pluto IS a Planet

Pity poor Pluto. In 2006, the International Astronomical Union reclassified the celestial body as a dwarf planet. Along with being totally emasculating, the IAU's declaration meant that Pluto was stripped of its rights as a full-fledged planet, including health insurance (medical, vision, and dental), a sweet parking space, and a Platinum American Express card. Well, now Pluto is fighting back, or at least it's found a group to take up the cause:
On Saturday, March 15th, 2008 from 4-5pm, 826 Seattle and Greenwood Space Travel Supply are protesting the 2006 International Astronomical Union's reclassification of Pluto as a "dwarf planet." This event is free and open to the public. The "Pluto IS a Planet" protest march and rally begins at the Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co., travels north on the sidewalks of Greenwood Avenue to 87th Street, and returns south at Neptune Coffee, located at 8415 Greenwood Ave North. At the rally, before a panel of experts, 826 Seattle workshop participants will read their persuasive arguments as to why Pluto should be reclassified as a planet. Experts include professional persuasive author, Seattle Times columnist Nicole Brodeur, professional persuasive speaker, lawyer Shawn Rediger, and local rocket scientist Tim Lloyd.
If you know a young'un who feels strongly about Pluto's place in the universe, 826 is hosting a free writing workshop for kids ages 10 and up. For two Saturdays (the 8th and before the rally on the 15th), they'll work on writing argumentative essays (which they'll read at the rally) as to why Pluto should be re-considered a planet, along with making protest signs. Space (huh huh) is limited to 15 kids, so don't delay in signing up. Register here.
