Kristy Lee Cook Kind of Brought it This Week

We're not really nutty about most of the American Idol contestants this year. We're pretty convinced cutiepie David Archuleta will win the whole thing, but he's not from here, so who cares? That kid is so incredible, we wonder what's in the water in his small Utah town. Paula wants to hang him from her rearview mirror, and we don't blame her.

However, we're going to keep on keeping our eye on pretty-haired Selma, Ore., horsegirl Kristy Lee Cook. Last week, she was on several antibiotics with the sickness everyone else in the world has, so we'll try to forget that she kind of dropped the ball with whatever song she sang (we really didn't remember--it was that unimpressive).

This week, though, she showed up and did this:

Granted, we don't really get her outfit--it was an awful lot of sparkly for a self-proclaimed "tomboy." She's no Archuleta, but we do have some love for camping, fishing horsegirls. Simon called her out on the fact that she hasn't been singing all the great country songs that would work so beautifully with her voice. Certainly there was some Dolly she could've pulled out for 70s night, some Emmylou....but, she did pretty damn well with what she chose. We're still holding out hope for our sort-of local girl--we saw a big spark in her original audition. We doubt she'll be going home this week.

If next week is '80s week, we want to see some Kristy Lee Cook doing some "Nine to Five," m'kay?
