Inslee Supports Who Now?

According to our current addiction, the Democratic Convention Watch blog, some less than stellar reporting created confusion over the status of Rep. Jay Inslee's endorsement of Clinton.

Inslee, who represents Washington's 1st Congressional District (Bainbridge Island, Kitsap Peninsula, north King County and parts of Snohomish County) is a super delegate. As we all know by now, the super delegates could be the ones to decide the nomination this year if the pledged delegate counts stay as close as they are.

So a story in yesterday's Bainbridge Island Review reporting a wavering of Inslee's support of Clinton obviously caught a few eyes:

Inslee plans to see how the rest of the campaign unfolds before announcing whom he will support at the August national convention, spokesperson Christine Hanson Clapp said Thursday.

Someone at Politico saw that and a post was put up that DemConWatch linked to.

Unfortunately, the Bainbridge paper got it wrong.

This morning, Politico's reporter got an email from Clapp correcting him:

"I do want you to know that the Bainbridge paper mischaracterized my remarks about Jay's position. When Jay endorsed Hillary Clinton, he intended to vote for her and that hasn't changed," she writes.

The lesson? Never use an article that paraphrases instead of quotes someone as a direct source. Always fact-check before publishing.
