Sea-Tac 10th Most Miserable Airport In U.S.
Moving Under Sea-Tac by Seattlest Flickr Contributor, Grundlepuck
We have a theory that all of the statisticians in America are employed either by Major League Baseball, Consumer Reports, or U.S. News & World Report. This week it was U.S. News & World Report statisticians watching their hard work come to fruition, with the release of the magazine's "Airport Misery Index."
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport ranked 10th among 47 of the nation's airports in what the study deemed as misery. To measure this misery, the index used two statistics - the percentage of delayed flights and the average percentage of seats filled on departing flights. Last year 23.5% of Sea-Tac flights were delayed and 82.8% of seats were filled. Unfortunately, the study does not take into account the shrillness of the repetitive message playing at airports across the nation or whose gift shops are the tackiest and most overpriced. We believe next year's index should take these key factors into consideration.
It will surprise none of you Third Coasters who call Seattle home now that Chicago's O'Hare was named the most miserable airport in the United States. The title of least miserable goes to the San Jose airport. Hopefully it will figure prominently in the airport's future advertisements. We can see it now: "San Jose: Least Miserable Airport, Ever."
