Radiohead Not Playing Sasquatch Festival

bop%20street.jpg

Wild speculation surrounding the possibility of Radiohead playing somewhere in Washington sometime in the next year has got us pissing ourselves with excitement. The P-I A P-I reader blog called Ear Candy** thinks they might headline the Sasquatch Festival at the end of May with REM and The Cure but our sources are suggesting the band will embark on a West Coast run after their European summer tour ends. As of right now, the only guaranteed U.S. shows are a handful of random gigs in the South--kicking off in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Cinco De Mayo of all times and places. After all, nothing pairs quite like cheap tequila and sophisticated Brit rock.

We were wondering if Seattle would fall victim to the all-too-common East Coast Rock Snub that bands have used to punish geographically inconvenient West Coasters (especially the Northwest) since the dawn of time, but it appears that won't be the case this time. Although, it does strike us odd that Radiohead's first guaranteed date is a gig in the land of Frat Conventions and Jimmy Buffett otherwise known as West Palm Beach.

We could probably swap Radiohead with beach balladeer Jack Johnson, and the folks in Florida would be happier all around. What Florida’s done for Radiohead or rock as a whole to deserve first city status eludes us. But Seattlest knows Thom Yorke has an affinity for Ballard’s Bop Street Records and Pioneer Square’s Emerald City Guitars, so we're confident Thom has a special place in his heart for our hyper-appreciative little backwater.

(Seattlest was reluctant to take a shot at Jack Johnson seeing how everyone else is these days but his beachy persona and the connection to West Palm Beach overruled our better sense.)

Authors note: Ear Candy does not speak for the PI and operates independantly of the newspaper.

Travis Hay is a frat-boy tool. He made predictions last year that were wildly wrong as well. Radiohead are playing the Gorge in August. It's pretty easy to figure that out, but Hay will be making that shocking announcement in about three months I would guess.
