Some Numbers to Consider, or Why Obama's Going to Win Washington

Some things to consider as we careen toward Saturday's caucuses:

First, Obama does extremely well with younger people, while Hillary does well with those over 65. Out of about 6.3 million people in Washington, 736,000 of them are over 65, while more than 2.2 million are between the ages of 20 and 44. 5.1 million are "White" and 217,000 are "Black or African American."

Second, about 562,000 people live in Seattle proper. 242,345 are aged 20 to 44 and 62,000 are over 65. Almost 400,000 people in Seattle are "White," while 46,219 are "Black or African American."

Finally, more than half of the states have voted now and one thing is clear: Obama does better in caucus states than Hillary. (He won seven of eight according to Politico.)

Granted, those numbers are pulled directly from the census and tell us nothing about party affiliation or the likelihood that any of those people will spend part of their Saturday afternoon caucusing. But, when we called the WA state Dems to ask where we should go on Saturday, the man who answered the phone said they expect a massive turnout.

Sure, we're not pollsters, we have no qualifications to make this kind of a prediction, and we may be prone to making snap judgments when they support our beliefs and hopes, but we're going to say it, anyway, and feel pretty safe saying it: It seems like things look really good for Obama in Washington this Saturday.

Thanks for the photo called "word", shapefarm. It's in the Seattlest Flickr Pool with tons of other cool shots. Are yours?

I won't predict results but I will make predictions about what will be my first caucus based on what my elderly friends have told me. I predict I will be irritated and bored listening to my neighbors speak -- even about the candidate I like. God, let them be brief.
