Starbucks to Remove Breakfast Sandwiches from Menu
In another effort by Chairman and Chief Executive Howard Schultz to "get back to the roots and the core of our heritage, which is the leading roaster of specialty coffee in the world," it's been reported that Starbucks will remove those tasty breakfast sammiches from their stores.
The AP reports that, "The sandwiches, which will disappear by this fall, boost a typical store's annual revenue by $35,000, so pulling them off the menu will cost at first," and that according to Schultz, "that proves the company isn't letting the soft economy distract it from committing to big changes that will pay off over the long haul."
Starbucks Gossip reports:
Howard Schultz made the announcement in his Wednesday conference call with analysts. "The scent of the warm sandwiches interferes with the aroma of the stores," he said. (Boy, is he right!) Stores will still offer warmed pastries.
Is Chairman Howie reaching a little bit here? We think so. Not only have we never noticed the sandwiches when we weren't already looking for them, but this just means we'll be skipping Starbucks and opting for good ole McD's when we're heading out early to go snowboarding.
