Hand Over The Performance Space To Pat Graney And No One Gets Hurt

MirrorWeb.jpgThey can't solve the arts space shortage in Seattle fast enough for the Pat Graney Company. For her newest work, House of Mind, Graney wants to bring the audience "into
the very nature of how she conceives of memory." To do that, she plans to create a complete world in a 10,000-sq.-ft. warehouse-type space.

This turns out to be a two-part process. That's the second, more artistic part. The first, more discovery-oriented part sounds like this:

Basically we are looking for 6-10,000 sf of space to develop and perform our new piece called House of Mind between now and October 31st. The performances would be in the space as well as the rehearsals, which would take place at least three times per week.

We have our own liability insurance and are a registered 501(c)(3) organization, so all in-kind donations would be tax deductible. We can pay overhead for the space but not rent. Our ideal space would be a warehouse or other space that is currently not in use (maybe even scheduled for demolition next year). It doesn't have to
pretty, just inhabitable and available.

Graney has long been fascinated by memory, intrigued by the idea that memory changes with time's passage -- how we remember something changes with us. Each time we remember something, we change that memory more. In House of Mind, the performance will occur all over the space, in separate rooms, in coordinated choreographic episodes, while the audience wanders through the environment. The performers act out the memory, and the audience plays the part of the person remembering.

But as we say, first they need an environment to show up. Anyone got 10,000 sq. ft. of environment they're not using? Worthy cause, people!
