Get Out: SIFF's Classic Film Series, Through Feb 7 @ SIFF Cinema

Peeping%20tom%202.jpgRobert Bresson, Luis Buñuel, Jean-Luc Godard, Jules Dassin, Federico Fellini -- thanks to distributor Rialto Pictures, their restored films are popping up in theaters around the country, and, happily, here in Seattle.

SIFF's classic film series, starting today and running through February 7, commemorates Rialto's 10th year in the movie business. Funny that a classic film company would be just ten years old, but life has a seemingly limitless supply of surprises, doesn't it?

Tonight we're off to catch the film that more or less killed British director Michael Powell's career, Peeping Tom. Powell's films play around with voyeurism, but Peeping Tom's serial killer protagonist making a documentary of his murders "crossed a line," as they say. Roger Ebert has a lot to say about the film, and recaps some of Powell's greatest hits:

Powell and Pressburger made some of the best and most successful films of the 1940s and '50s, including ``The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp,'' with Roger Livesey's great performance spanning three wars; ``The Red Shoes,'' with Moira Shearer as a ballet dancer; ``Black Narcissus,'' with Deborah Kerr as a nun in the Himalayas, and ``Stairway to Heaven,'' with David Niven as a dead airman. Then came ``Peeping Tom.''
Seattlest has plans to drop in at the fest quite a bit, so we'll be updating you on what's coming up every so often. After the jump, we've listed the whole series.
