Get Out Saturday: Australia Day at the Kangaroo and Kiwi

We love Australians, probably because they aren’t as Eurotrashy as our trans-Atlantic friends, and they are seemingly the only other country on the globe that has a reasonable disdain for soccer.

They’ve also had a big week what with their tennis tournament and Cate Blanchett receiving two Oscar nominations.

Well, Saturday is Australia Day, their national holiday, in which everyone Down Under takes the day off work and drinks--kind of like our St. Patrick’s Day.

To celebrate, the Kangaroo and Kiwi Pub, the only Australian pub on Aurora between N. 75th Street and N. 70th Street, is having a day-long celebration starting at noon. It will feature a sausage sizzle, live cricket coverage, a pie eating contest, singing, and of course drinking. Sadly, however, Lauren Jackson will not be in attendance.

So get your bum over to Green Lake, grab a hectare of Didgeridoo, and tell people, "That’s not a knife" until you are forcibly removed.

Full schedule.
